HOW WE OPERATE OVERSEAS

GENERAL

Our aim is to regularly supply trusted, efficient distributors with batches of filled shoeboxes to distribute in their areas. Members of the UK management team visit our distributors in order to understand the needs and culture of each country. Our distributors send us reports of each completed distribution and contact is maintained throughout the year. The individuals who receive Rotary shoeboxes are chosen by our distributors purely on humanitarian needs.

A BIT OF DETAIL

The distribution committee of the Rotary Shoe Box Scheme allocates shoeboxes to overseas distributors throughout the year aiming to maintain a regular pattern of deliveries provided that the distributors comply with the agreed distribution and reporting routine. The agreement is to furnish the Scheme with written reports ideally supported by photographs and/or video of the distribution of each load of boxes. All distributors are personally known to members of the distribution committee and have demonstrated their ability to manage distributions by working with a pilot sized delivery and then a steadily increased quantity. We visit our distributors regularly but it is not possible for a member of the UK team to accompany each load nor remain in that country long enough to see every box given to an individual.

We select our distributors based on their honesty and efficiency. Some of them are church based, often from the newer churches within the country, working hard to help the disadvantaged in their community. Although these distributors are religiously motivated they understand our insistence that boxes are given out following the Rotary ethos which is non religious and non sectarian and choose people based solely on humanitarian needs. We do know that boxes are given to Christians, Jews, Muslims and people with no declared faith.
